According to a project ratified by the government, construction of the Hanoi – Vinh highway will be underway soon. In addition, highway No 1, route 46 linking Vinh City and the west, and a road linking Cua Hoi, Vinh and Nam Dan will soon be completed. Bridges will also be built, including Ben Thuy II Bridge and Cua Hoi Bridge connecting Nghi Hai in Cua Lo town and Nghi Xuan in Ha Tinh Province.
Under the plan, Vinh airport will be upgraded, and some new air routes launched, including Vinh – Vientiane and Vinh – Northeast Thailand. The airport is expected to become an international airport with flights to China, Northeast Asia and other countries.
Under the plan, the government aims to develop Truong Son auto plant with a capacity of 12,000 units per year, developing Nghe An Auto Plant into a repair and maintenance centre for the region. The government is also seeking to set up joint ventures in agricultural machinery, and a computer assembly capable of producing 5,000-10,000 units per year.
The Vinh – Cua Lo area will be established as the major regional trade centre, serving goods transfer, and import-export for Nghe An Province and the whole region. Tourism complexes will also be developed in the area, including Quyet Mountain, Ben Thuy, Southern tourism complex, Cua Lo beach, and Cam river.
GDP growth rate of Vinh City is expected to reach 14% per annum in 2004-2010. The GDP proportion of the city will be equal to 12.4% of the GDP index of the North central region by 2010, 15.2% in 2015, and 18.2% in 2020. The urban area of Vinh will be expanded towards the north and northeast to a total area of 250 sq km.
